TEAM LEADER – CEO / REALTOR®
My family likes to say, “We MacDonald’s have sawdust in our veins.” My great-grandfather helped rebuild the parliament buildings, my grandfather helped build the Bank of Canada, and my father worked on the CN Tower.
I knew from the moment I first visited one of my dad’s job sites as a child that I would follow in the MacDonald’s steel toe footsteps. Seeing the creation of important Ottawa landmarks, like the Rideau Centre and the Nortel Campus, sparked my lifelong passion for construction and real estate in general.
My name is Jason MacDonald, and as predicted by my family, I started my career as a builder. Fast forward many years, I am now a husband, a father, a real estate agent, and the owner of one of Canada’s Top 1% real estate teams/groups. My real estate business has been going strong for over 14 years. The sawdust is still in my veins, but I focus my skills and knowledge on smart real estate moves for good people in the Ottawa area.
Like many people, my career path was not a straight one. There have been many curves in the road that include a construction business, employment with high tech firms as a systems engineer and a Director’s position with Export Development Canada. But then I met real estate!
As a real estate agent, I feel gratitude every single day. I get to meet people and hear their stories. I work with them to find their dream home or help them make that sale that propels them to the next adventure. I’m in the business of making people happy!! And I do all that with the help of my incredible team of professionals at the MacDonald Property Group. Oh, and that team includes my lovely wife, Renee our esteemed Director of Marketing.
Family and community are at the core of most real estate transactions. My family is incredibly blessed to live in the welcoming and inclusive community of Barrhaven, where our two beautiful daughters can run down the street to go to school and feel safe. That’s why I give back every chance I get. I have been the Chair of the Barrhaven Business Improvement Area (BBIA) since 2013, an organization that is vital in supporting Barrhaven businesses and the community. You will also see my team and I regularly at local charities, fundraising or volunteering and generally having a good time.
Everyone knows that there is more to an excellent real estate agent than awards, but I thought you would still want to see them.
- Top 1% in Canada for Royal Lepage 2011 to 2017 – Chairman Award
- Top 1% in Canada for RE/MAX 2017 to present – Diamond Award
- Named Top 100 agents in Canada, Real Estate Professional Magazine
- Ontario-Canada 150 Inspiration Award for Community Leadership (2017)
- Federal Canada 150th Anniversary Medal for Community Service (2018)
These are just a few examples of our high degree of success, but enough about me. I’d love to get to know you. How can I help you and your family make some dreams come true? If you have any questions or are ready to buy or sell, I’m here to chat.
I always knew growing up that I wanted to have a profession that I could help people in one way or another. Switching careers from the construction industry to becoming a Realtor was more than a natural transition, as I always loved socializing with people and have always put a conscious effort into making people feel good.
When I decided to make the career change, I continually would get the same response from everyone I told about my potential change to become a Realtor, which was “I would definitely hire you, I would trust you.” I heard this repeatedly. This not only assured me that I was making the right decision to change paths, but it also showed me that everyone’s biggest concern with hiring an agent was trust. This was a big eye-opener for me, and it showed me that people want to not only know that you are competent & hard-working, they also want to know that you really do care about them as an individual.
I can say with confidence that my clients without a doubt feel that I not only care about being meticulous about every aspect of the transaction to assure they get the best possible outcome but that I genuinely care about them as people and about all the emotions and concerns that go along with buying or selling a home. I love that I can help people and at the same time turn what can be a stressful experience into something positive and exciting for my clients.
In 1994, My wife and I moved to Ottawa from Montreal to settle and raise a family, we have been sharing our love for Ottawa with clients ever since, particularly those who are new to the region. I love the size of Ottawa and that it is bilingual (as I am). It is big enough to have the amenities of a big city, restaurants and entertainment, but small enough that people are friendly and calm. You can be in a trendy downtown area one minute, and in the walking-hiking-biking trails of the Gatineau Hills in no time. The city has something to offer everyone.
Before pursuing my passion for real estate, I was a wedding and portrait photographer. I believe my training gave me a sharp eye for visual details when I’m helping a client buy a home or investment property or to prepare a home for sale. I love pointing out all of the features of a home and how they will benefit the buyer, the things that make one home more appealing than another. Most clients can sense a “connection” to their preferred home, and I like to explain to them why.
The biggest rewards of a real estate career include my client’s excitement when they find the right home for them, when I negotiate the best deal for them, but mostly when I get a referral. It’s confirmation of a job well done for clients who are so happy with my service that they can’t wait to have me to help their friends in the same way.
In 2013 I moved to Ottawa from England to further my career in professional squash. After running two successful programs at the Ottawa Athletic Club and The Arbutus Club in Vancouver I moved back to Ottawa in January 2020 and decided to pursue a career in Real Estate.
Real Estate is something I have always been passionate about and after purchasing a couple of investment properties myself, I decided it was something I would love to help other people achieve.
Working in a client facing environment over the years has taught me critical skills in problem solving and working through emotionally heightening and sensitive situations that can also be linked to buying and selling Real Estate.
Always going above and beyond in my role is something I don’t necessarily pride myself on, its something I feel should be expected on a day to day basis. Since I moved to Canada from England, buying and selling myself has been one of the most nerve racking experiences I have had, and I can promise all of my clients and customers that I will absolutely and unequivocally have your back and help you through every step of the way.
I was humbled recently by a client of mine. They said that former teachers make excellent realtors and they were confident they were in good hands. I loved this and it resonated with me! I am hardworking, patient and genuinely caring. This is necessary as an educator and I feel this saying reinforces what I practice in my ethics, my values and what I always strive to achieve in all that I do.
Having worked as a high school teacher for 15 years in Ottawa before becoming a professionally trained realtor, I am able to leverage the qualities I gained in education, as well as my strong communication skills, vivacious spirit and sheer determination, to provide the best buying and selling experiences for my clients. And don’t be surprised if I throw in a couple analogies along the way to illustrate real estate concepts with a little pizzazz.
All paths lead to Rome, or in my case, Real Estate. As a teenager, I loved going for runs in the nearby Rothwell Heights neighbourhood in Ottawa’s East end. I enjoyed taking in the diverse and impressive architecture of the community’s custom built homes. As a young professional, I appreciated the financial advantage of being a property owner. Then as a landlord, I loved the excitement of managing my own investment properties, including listing for rent and qualifying our own tenants. I guess you could say that Real Estate chose me and I’m so glad that it did. Now as a fully trained real estate agent, I am delighted to be helping my friends, family, neighbours and clients buy, sell and invest in real estate to meet their own property goals.
Born and raised in Ottawa, I know the city inside and out and all that its various neighbourhoods have to offer. After returning to Ottawa following my undergraduate degree at the University of Waterloo and having travelled to many beautiful cities across the world, Ottawa still tops the list of best places to live. I am grateful to be raising my family in this great city that I call home.
Growing up, my father, an engineer through and through, always taught me to take a careful look to really figure out how something worked before tackling a challenge; be it changing a tire, doing a home reno, or investing my finances. I was taught to do things right and to do them well! I love applying this thoroughness and attention to detail to everything I do. This lesson has proved invaluable in my real estate work as I carefully consider all aspects of each home purchase and sale and effectively protect my clients.
When I’m not working, I love spending time with my wonderful husband and our three adventurous children. I also enjoy training for triathlons and skiing in the Gatineau Hills. Another passion of mine includes helping newcomers to Canada get acquainted with all our amazing city has to offer and to help them feel welcome in our neighbourhood.
Integrity, thoroughness and dedication are at the centre of who I am. That shines through in everything that I do for my real estate clients.
What’s your next real estate move? Together, let’s make it a great one!
Being a Realtor is in my soul. The month after I was born, my dad opened his own real estate brokerage. He loved the business and the excitement of connecting people with the perfect home. As a child, I spent many hours “working” there and helping sort the listings, which at the time came into the office on printed cards. As a teenager, I went to work for my dad, covering the desk and fulfilling a variety of administrative duties for the many agents in his growing business.
My studies took me towards education, following my passion for helping and working with young people. I entered teaching and served for many years teaching high school. In 2008, my husband pursued an opportunity that brought us to Ottawa. I took charge of the logistics, taking time to discover the many neighbourhoods of this beautiful city. I worked closely with our Realtor and found us a home in the west end—a perfect place for me, my husband, and our two children.
I’ve pursued other opportunities here as well, as a teacher and as an entrepreneur. However, I always knew that I would return to the world of real estate. In the MacDonald Property Group, I have found the same energy and passion that both my father and I share for real estate and assisting clients. I am beyond thrilled to help guide my clients to find their perfect Ottawa home and to get value when selling. Having moved to Ottawa, I have a unique perspective of the city and its unlimited potential as a place to call home!
DIRECTOR OF MARKETING
I am the boss’s wife and mother of our two beautiful girls, Willow and Aspen. I have a diploma in Interior Design from Algonquin College and have had a career in the government doing office accommodations, facilities and project management involving space planning, office furniture acquisitions, small construction projects, employee moves of hundreds of people etc. for over 11 years. I had a role in implementing new workspace solutions for Treasury Board that reduced cost and space envelope that consolidated their 11 buildings to 2 (Workspace 2.0).
My mother has had multiple sclerosis for over 40 years which influenced me to look at space differently, always seeing it with an accessibility and innovative perspective, which is why I got into design in the first place. My father is a mechanic and he was also a crane and tower crane operator based in Cornwall and has done multiple projects in surrounding areas including Ottawa such as the University of Ottawa. He built the houses that I grew up in which began the love of housing, the design and construction industry.
I took a leave of absence from my job in the government in 2016 to raise the girls, but now that the little one will be starting school in September I was so ready to get back to work this year and be with adults! I am a very social person and have always had a passion for customer service. I love meeting people and getting to learn their stories which is why I was very interested in working with Jason and his team as they affect people’s lives directly. I love being a part of a dynamic team that is based on helping people with some of the biggest decisions that they will make in their lives!
In the past, on the side, I have had multiple creative side businesses such as a sewing business, Miss Mac Creations as well as a children’s and youth entertainment company. Naturally, it has been an easy transition to be in the creative field of Social Media and Marketing. I love creating designs and coming up with creative ways to market our company that I am so proud to support. I am making the transition from the client (yep that’s right, I met Jason as my realtor), wife, mother of our children and now employee!
I have lived in Barrhaven since 2006 and have never looked back. I absolutely love this community and am so happy to be raising our family here! Since I was raised bilingual in Cornwall, our kids go to Pierre-Elliot Trudeau school where I am part of the teacher-parent association to help in any way that I can.
